Thats no rat, thats a dwarf hamster. And the snake is some variety of corn snake, I believe. You can tell by the blue cloudiness over the eyes that the snake is about to shed, making the skin very unflexable, so it is unable to eat for the time being. That snake looks quite thin and undernourished, I’m sure after it sheds the hamster won’t last long.
Feeding a dwarf hamster to a domestic corn snake is pretty foolish anyway, unless you like vet bills. Dwarf hamsters can bite quite hard. And since corns will take prekilled (humanely killed) dead food, putting a small animal though unnecessary stress like being stalked by a snake is thoughtless. You also have to wonder how long the hamster has been in there to be relaxed around the snake, and how many days the hamster has gone without being fed.
This is not a “cute” picture but shows that the people in charge of these animals are negligent and bad pet owners.
You think you know every thing, do you? Here is the truth.
A while ago I stumbled over an article. Here is a snippet.
“A hamster and a four foot rat snake have become friends. The hamster was given to the snake as a “treat”. but instead of devouring it, he decided to make it his pal. They live in the same cage.”
And they are not pets. This happened at Tokyo Zoo.
So there!
Both hamster and snake are fed regularly. They really are friends. The snake eats dead rodents now, and the hamster doesn’t even freak out. The hamster was put in there BEFORE the snake would willingly eat frozen food.

Nah, I think the rat is scared of being eated by the snake. That doesn’t show any love or friendship.

Don’t make snarky comments like that before you dig in and find out what really happened. Here is the website of a similar article.

Thank you for telling them that! And they could be friends, you never know!
I have seen several articles on this matter. I am thinking about writing a book full of heart-warming stories like this one.
