omg that thing is so cute and adorable I hope that person but it back into the water and I hope he didnt scare him to badly lol
good job person good job!
-Maddddie
It is cute but its probably not a Puffer fish, once puffers puff up they die, because in order to puff up they have to blow up there intestines, and when they un puff they die.
Sorry if I made it sad but its true.
Actually, 8th Grade Wonder, you’re wrong. That’s quite a common misconception about pufferfish but it’s completely false. They actually inflate by filling their stomachs with water. Then, once the danger has subsided, they simply expel the water. Ta da. ^_^
Sorry, Wonder, but whoever told you that lied. Puffers don’t die when the puff–it’s a natural instinct for them when they’re scared. It’s a response to help ward off predators. Why would they naturally be able to avoid getting eaten just to kill themselves?
You are incorrect. A puffer fish blows itself up as a defense. A defense is hardly worth while if it ends in your demise. Not many species evolve much further if the only way they can defend themselves ends up killing them.
Bee’s do die when they sting, but they are acting collectively as a hive creature and for the greater good. Mainly the hive’s survival.
Puffer fish do get stressed from puffing up. But it is not fatal. Check wikipedia for more info.
8th Grade Wonder = not. Of course they can “unpuff”!
Since puffers are not hive animals like bees, there would be no evolutionary advantage to individuals dying in self defense.
Unfortunately, Wikipedia did have this to say: “When lifted out of water there is a risk that puffers inflate with air. This may result in problems deflating again afterwards.” Uh-oh.
Actually 8th grade wonder, when they inflate with water, its there stomach that inflates, and they become stressed out. And when they inflate with air, its harder for them to deflate, and they have a better chance of death cuz the air messes up their organs. Im a 8th grader that has a puffer and knows alot about them.
How could you think that in order to defend yourself you would have to die. YEAH RIGHT i mean if you were that creature would you want to die and be that cute I mean seriously use your brain. I mean I study but thats only because I’m in 9th grade and soon to get out of Salisbury Middle School and finally go to the High School.
He’s cute and all but also one of the most poisonous creatures on the planet if you eat him. I’m pretty sure this is the same kind of fish that I’m thinking of.
i love how all of u ppl waste there lives here arguing about 8th graders and awing over a baby fish. i decided to waste my time to point out ur ridiculous actions. dont try to bite me back, im never coming back to this page.
u guys r so stupid…i mean fighting over a fish who might have been aten this morning!!! but i admit its adorable im going to look it up on google and see if they sell the little guys!!! i might buy 10 if i find them…oh, and THE BRAIN or 8TH GRADE WONDER you r so stupid and soooooooo wrong!!!!!!!!!
Its not true that they die, but it is still NOT good for them to puff up. If they are scared enough to blow up, they are already greatly stressed. Staying puffed up for any long period of time REALLY stresses out the fish even further. It is from the stress that they can die from. All fish can die from being over stressed.
8th Grade wonder might not be so far off in this case. If the puffer puffs with air they can easily die. They are designed to puff with water not air. Be kind to puffers and leave them in the water.
Don’t believe me? Check out the web sites dedicated to keeping puffers in an aquarium.
Puffer fish die if they inhale air and can’t get it out. This was probably not the nicest thing to do unless you helped him back into the water (you can assist a Puffer fish in deflation if the accidentally fill up with air by holding them underwater tail down, face up to the surface so the air bubbles rise out)
AWWWWWWWWWW…. sooooooo CUTE!!!! I WANT ONE. BUT I WILL KEEP IT SAFE IN THE WATER. I REALLY WANT ONE… they are soooooo cute. I would name a boy puffer fish Fizzle and the girl puffer fish Cookie!!!! But I do NOT want to get hurt. BUT STILL….. I really like them.
I have TWO puffrer fish and I love them… mine are spotted though. they havent puffed yet which makes me happy cause it means that they are happy. They ARE cute though I am so happy I got them. To every body who said they want one you are going to love them… did you know that they eat crickets?
#61My pufferfish is named "Booger" on 07.14.08 at 11:05 am
I heard of a guy who got his finger bit off by a puffer fish, I saw it on google (the picture of his missing finger)
As most people may know there are many different types of puffer fish out there. But only selected kinds of the puffer fish relatives (unpoisonous) are allow to be sold in stores. By looking, you might say the fellow is cute, but it is no friend towards anyother fish. I bought a puffer fish not long ago and let me tell ya, that kute little guy is no joke! even though its the baby/smallest in my aquarium, but it nips all the fins out of my other fish like there wasn’t tommorow. Even when quarintine, it leaves holes on my net. Did I told you, there were teeths under that adorable face? As they get older I was suppose to move mine from freshwater to salt water(because of its species) and cut down its outgrowning teeths before it actually keep it from feeding itself. How would you guys like this adorable monster for a pet? If ya do, just make sure you don’t have anyother fish to feed to it..
P.S. Enjoy as much as you can because puffer fish are expansive!
Actually “8th grade wonder” you shouldn’t get any information on wikipedia because it is submitted by the people. I’m in the 7th grade and I knew that not trying to show any body up though but I thought it was an important thought I’d through in there! ^__^
i know for sure that 8th grade wonder is wrong because i used to have a baby puffer fish and they have puffed and unpuffed like amillion times. but sadly that one person is right, there is a very good chance that they can die when thay come out of water. thats how mine died:(
actuly 8th grade wonder if a pufferfish blows itself up step back because if it blows itself up enough the whole fish explode not the inner body…………………….at least that’s what my 3rd grade teacher said im in college now……………………………………..its still the cutest thing i have seen today oops type o on the first word …………………… anyway the porpose of my head name is to warship my still liveing 20 year old tropical fish pink kissing goromi to learn more about pink kissing go on to wikipedia
Stress shortens the life of a puffer fish severely.

I work as a divemaster and as soon as I see one starting to puff I pull away anyone around it, so it doesn´t get puffed.
They look cute but that´s no reason to shorten their lives…
It looks like it’s scared to death, I don’t know how you think it’s cute o_o. I mean, yay it’s very tiny, but not everything tiny is cute.
I don’t see anybody going “Ooh a centipede is cute!~”
And anyway, according to the above comments, it was pretty cruel to snatch it out of the water just for a picture. I hope you put it back.
As for the “omg don’t eat it lah, it’s so cute~”, not many people eat puffers because yes, it IS poisonous. If you do plan to go to a Japanese restaurant (not racial profiling, just thinking at the top of my head), don’t eat puffers unless the restaurant has an extremely renowned reputation for puffer fish. If they are not cut right, or washed properly, then you could die from the poison.

I hope that the 8th Grade Wonder there gets held back, ’cause that is absolutely WRONG. They can puff as much as they like.
Looks like a descendant or one species of the Babelfish.
